Snežana Golubović (b. 1965) was born in the year The Rolling Stones rocked the world with “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”... She grew up with the “Belgrade Alternative Scene” (“BAS”) phenomenon, heard the band Ekatarina Velika, read Ivo Andrić and the poet Danilo Kiš, visited BITEF (Belgrade International Theatre Festival) and FEST (Film festival), studied Drama, wrote about music and film, spent her summers in Dubrovnik and made her own radio and TV programs.

In 1992, Golubović moved to Germany where she has worked independently as an actress and performer in professional productions of renowned directors such as Alexander Brill, Dirk Hauser, Angie Hiesl, Saskia Boddeke and Peter Greenaway. She acted as an assistant to Marina Abramović and was a member of the Independent Performance Group (I.P.G.), which was founded and led by Abramović. Since 2013 she has been a member of the performance art trio TRaG (Trojan, Reiser and Golubović).

Her works have been presented at international performance and theatre festivals and art biennials in cities all over the world, among others: Cadiz (2004), Amsterdam (2005), Avignon (2005), Venice (2007), Beijing (2008 & 2009), Brussels (2011), Chicago (2012), Venice (2012), Vancouver (2013), São Paulo (2014), Punta Arenas, (2014), Jawa, Indonesia (2015), Singapore (2015) and New York (2016).

Golubović is visiting Finland for the first time, which coincides with the 100th anniversary year of Finland’s independence. In accordance with the theme of the event Là-bas→ Self as the Third, Golubović looks for self in a first, second and third sense in a long-duration performance My Kalevala. In the performance she performs selected verses from the national epic Kalevala in three languages: in her mother tongue Serbo-Croatian, in German and in English. Other conceptual and elemental triads in the work include: words, sound and silence; body, space and time; paper, gold and thread; past, present and now; Aino, Louhi and Marjatta; Калевала, Kalewala and Kalevala.
